Death Railway Bridge Over the Mae Nam Khwae Built During World War II:
I am just going to post a few pictures from my first visit to this famous bridge yesterday around sunset. Today I spent much more time there as well as at Hellfire Pass and the Memorial Museum for all those who worked, suffered and died building the railway between Bangkok and Rangoon for the Japanese Army during World War Two. I was profoundly moved by what I saw and experienced during these visits and need more time to process and explain before I post a second part.
Meanwhile the bridge at sunset and in the light of a different era is a beautiful place and I hope you enjoy some of the visuals I experienced during that first trip.
Just a note that the entire span is not the original construction. The bridge was used for just 20 months before it was bombed by Allied aircraft in 1945 so only the outer curved spans are original.
